Torzi Matthews
Torzi Matthews is a small-scale food and wine producer based in South Australia, run by partners Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews. Domenic, from a Calabrian-Abruzzese farming family, grew up working in his family’s market gardens, while Tracy brings experience from her hospitality career in New South Wales. In 1996, they established vineyards in the remote, frost-prone Eden Valley, aiming to grow low-yield grapes for making European-style wines using traditional methods like hand harvesting, natural fermentation, and aging in French oak. They also revived a family olive oil and table olive business, sourcing fruit from centuries-old wild olive trees in the Barossa Valley. Their approach emphasizes minimal intervention and respect for heritage traditions, with a focus on creating wines and olive products that reflect their origins.
