God's Hill Wines
God’s Hill Wines, established in 1998 by Charlie Scalzi in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, is a small-scale winery rooted in family tradition. Charlie began making wine as a child in Italy with his grandfather and father, learning hands-on techniques and the importance of hygiene in winemaking. The vineyard, located in Lyndoch, grows shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and chardonnay across 30 acres. Charlie focuses on minimal intervention, using premium grapes to create wines that reflect each vintage’s character. Production is limited to 3,500 bottles per variety annually, emphasizing quality over quantity. His philosophy combines traditional methods, like sulfur use for preservation, with a commitment to affordability, aiming to offer high-end wines at accessible prices. The winery has earned awards, including Decanter and IWC medals, and sells grapes to Dorrien Estate while retaining a portion for its boutique label. Open for tastings, the cellar door operates weekly, showcasing wines shaped by Charlie’s lifelong passion and heritage.
